19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:19,20
Church ministry refers to the activities and services carried out by members of a Christian church to fulfill its mission and purpose — making disciples of all nations.
Whenever we mean “CHURCH”, it is always the body of Christ – One and only Church. Every member is a part of the body of Christ. Every member called to do his work in relation to the body, for the effective fulfillment of raising “ CHRIST – CENTERED’ , ‘CHRIST – GLORIFYING’ , ‘CHRIST – PLEASING’ and ‘CHRIST – IMAGE’ CHURCH.
We are all called to do ministry so that the gospel can be proclaimed, the kingdom can be built, and God can be glorified. It is the calling of God.
Church ministry is essential. Jesus came to serve others as an example of the Kingdom of God, even to his death. Ministry is seen as a way for believers to serve God and others, reflecting the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. We, as his disciples, must also follow this call to serve and give our lives for other people.
To fulfill its God-given purpose, a congregation must have a deep understanding of the biblical foundations, guiding principles, and obligations that come with church ministry. The activities of the Church include preaching, teaching, worship, pastoral care, evangelism, missions, and social services through outreach.
Principles that Guide Our Church Ministry
Few principles for church ministry that we understand from these passages: (Matthew 28:19-20 , Matthew 22:37-40 , Mark 10:45 , 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 , Ephesians 4:11-13 )
Servanthood: Ministry is rooted in the example of Jesus, who served others selflessly. Church leaders and members are called to serve rather than be served.
Love and Compassion: Ministry should be motivated by love for God and others. This involves showing compassion and meeting people’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
Faithfulness to the Gospel: Ministry should always be grounded in the teachings of the Bible and faithful to Jesus Christ’s gospel message.
Empowerment and Equipping: A fundamental Christian principle is equipping all believers for ministry. This includes teaching, training, and empowering members to use their gifts for the work of the ministry.
Community and Fellowship: Ministry is done within the context of your existing community. Building relationships and fostering fellowship inside and outside the church are essential components.
Mission and Outreach: Ministry extends beyond the church walls to reach those who do not yet know Christ. This includes evangelism, missions, and social justice efforts.
Holistic Approach: Effective ministry addresses the whole person — spiritual, physical, emotional, and social needs. It recognizes the interconnectedness of these aspects of life.
We have been nourishing, nurturing and training many shepherds and helping them in raising a Word based, Spirit led church, filled with the love of God to effectively meet the needs of the congregation and community and where members can grow in faith and effectively contribute to the well being of the church.
